The Importance of Knowing Computer Basics as a Communication Student

As a communication student and a 20-something year old, I believe it is extremely important that all of us understand the basics of computers, wether that be a PC or a Mac. Because of the generation we live in, and how the workforce operates as far as everything related to communication, we all need to know the basic functions of a computer. Regardless if we like it or not, 99% of what most of us will be doing in the “real world” will probably be involving- guess what- a computer.

According to or text (and the rest of the world), in a computer, there are two major “families” if you will- hardware and software. It’s important to know the components in each, so you can better troubleshoot your device. No more using the “I’m not techy” phrase every time you have questions about your computer on the online help chat. You should be able to at least start troubleshooting and possibly resolve your issue on your own. Also, so if you ever are shopping for a computer to work on, you know how to pick a device that will best suit your needs for your specific projects.
